2021 MLK Day of Service

President Amy Gutmann assisted in kicking off the morning events of the 2021 MLK Day of Service, which included an inspirational talk by Marc Lamont Hill, a Penn alumnus. Though all the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Symposium events was be held online this year, Gutmann told listeners “we’re still closely joined together in remembering and honoring Dr. King’s example—one this nation still so urgently needs.” In honoring the memory of Dr. King, Gutmann expressed that she and everyone at Penn promises to not slow down “until freedom resounds across this country, around the world, and on our very campus. Our commitment to stand up to hatred, to fight against racism, and to promote fairness, equity, and justice is undiminished. This past year has only made us more determined.”
