On Thursday, April 28, 2011, Dr. Gutmann posed for a photo with the Penn Cricket Team in College Hall. She also had the opportunity to congratulate the team on their recent success: they celebrated a third place finish at the American College Cricket Championship last month in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. This year, there are 12 members on the team, including two alumni players. Their victory was featured in the Times of India last month and featured in the Penn Current.
The team also presented Dr. Gutmann with a customized “Gutmann” #1 jersey.
The Penn Cricket Club comprises more than 15 undergraduate students, who together with graduate students at Penn, play against various clubs and universities in the tri- state region (Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey). They play tournaments and friendly games in the fall (Sept-Oct) and in the spring (Mar-Apr). Recently, the 'Ivy League Championships' has been set up and matches will be held next season. The team claims to be the “first ever club at the University of Pennsylvania.”
