Penn President Amy Gutmann joined in celebration at the Penn Museum’s Golden Gala - the first opportunity for guests to see the Museum’s brand new galleries.

The Penn Museum is a treasure for our students, for the community, and for the world. Everyone who crosses our threshold gains insights into the past and how it informs our present, preparing us to lead a better future.  The spectacular new Middle East Galleries opened to international acclaim last spring. The rest of its main level—dramatic new galleries of Africa, Mexico and Central America, and an entirely new Main Entrance Gallery with the fourth largest ancient sphinx in the world at its heart—opened with the Gala Celebration.  Today, the fourth-largest Sphinx in existence sits resplendent in its own gallery. It serves as a catalyst for further bold plans underway through our unprecedented Building Transformation. For generations to come, visitors will always remember this magnificent welcoming experience to one of the world’s truly great museums.
